The best storage I've found for my magazine collection is the really useful boxes - the 9 litre rectangle ones. Most magazines fit perfectly. They are not too heavy when full and they stack well.

For the oversized magazines I have some of the other sized boxes, but the small 9L ones are the best.

Those Really Useful Boxes are good but they are not cheap!! You need loads of those little ones to store anything big! I have some of the small ones for CDs and DVDs. Keeps the dust off and easier to stack!
